Slovak folk embroidery long drew inspiration from geometric patterns and nature. In the Trenčín region, these were often accompanied by the rooster, a symbol of protection, vigilance, and strength. They inspired a series for Trenčín Castle, marking Trenčín as EU Capital of Culture 2026.
From time immemorial, Slovak folk embroidery has been rooted in geometric patterns and symbols inspired by nature. The same principles can be found in the Trenčín region, where these ornaments still appear today on traditional folk costumes and household textiles. They are often accompanied by the rooster — a powerful symbol of protection, vigilance, and vital life force.

A PIECE OF THE TRENČÍN REGION IN JEWELRY
The rhythmic composition of stitches shaped geometric patterns into mosaic compositions and nature-inspired symbols. These ornaments were also characteristic of the Trenčín region. Especially in the village of Trenčianska Teplá, they can still be found today on folk costumes and household textiles. An inseparable part of the embroidery was the rooster — the guardian of the yard, a warder off of evil forces, and a herald of the new day. Over time, it became a symbol of vigilance, protection, and strength.
These traditional motifs became the inspiration for a jewelry collection created for one of the most beautiful castles in Slovakia, Trenčín Castle, on the occasion of Trenčín being named the European Capital of Culture 2026. Inspirations drawn from local folk costumes were transformed into contemporary jewelry designs reflecting the colors of the event.
The result is a collection of unique pieces that pay tribute to the traditions of the Trenčín region while carrying them into the present.
